Sayre, Pa. — Guthrie will host a “Shine A Light On Lung Cancer” vigil on Thursday, Nov. 14 at 5:30 p.m. at The Club at Shepard Hills in Waverly, N.Y. Community members and all those affected by the disease including survivors, current patients and loved ones are invited to attend this free event.
An additional 125 participating communities nation-wide will host vigils during the month of November, Lung Cancer Awareness Month, in partnership with the Lung Cancer Alliance.
Each year more Americans die from lung cancer than any other major cancer – breast, prostate, and colon combined. Lung cancer accounts for 30% of all cancer related deaths and yet it is the least funded in terms of overall research dollars. As a result, only 15% of those diagnosed with lung cancer live longer than five years.
Guthrie’s Shine a Light on Lung Cancer vigil will raise awareness of lung cancer and offer hope, inspiration, support and remembrance for all those touched by the disease. Special guests will share their personal stories of survivorship and Guthrie Cancer Center will offer a series of brief presentations which highlight advancements in lung cancer screening and treatment.
For more information, contact Melanie Nittinger BSN, RN, OCN, Oncology Nurse Navigator at the Guthrie Cancer Center at (570) 887-2723. No registration necessary.
