Guthrie Hospice Seeks Volunteers

Sayre, Pa. – Are you willing to accept a life-changing challenge, while making a real difference in someone else’s life?

Guthrie Hospice is seeking new volunteers for day, evening and weekend hours to provide comfort and support for hospice patients. These volunteers are asked to provide positive support to patients and their families at a very difficult, but important, time in their lives.

“Volunteers are fundamental to the hospice concept and provide companionship and positive support in the lives of patients and their families,” says Jeff Wilkinson, Guthrie Hospice Volunteer Coordinator. “Our volunteers help to dispel our clients’ fears of being alone during a very stressful time.”

Qualities needed are good communication skills, a non-judgmental attitude, flexibility, reliability and compassion. Applicants must be at least 16 years of age and have a current driver’s license. Volunteer duties are as simple as reading to patients, writing letters for them or staying nearby while they sleep. A nurse is always available should a medical situation arise.

The Guthrie Hospice volunteer is a rewarding experience and will provide you the opportunity to make a real difference in someone’s life by providing a unique kind of support and compassion.

New Hospice volunteer training classes will begin on Monday, February 6 from 4-7p.m. and on successive Mondays, February 13 and February 20 at the Guthrie Hospice office at 421 Tomahawk Road in Towanda, PA. Registration is required by January 23, 2012. For more information, contact Jeff Wilkinson at 800-598-6155.
