Sayre, Pa. – The vascular laboratories at the Guthrie clinics in Sayre, Wellsboro and Towanda, Pa.; Ithaca, Owego, Big Flats, and Corning, N.Y.; as well as the ultrasound department at Troy Community Hospital in Troy, Pa., have earned vascular testing accreditation by the Intersocietal Accreditation Commission (IAC), formerly called ICAVL.
“We are very proud to have earned this prestigious status. Our patients can rely on this accreditation as an indicator of the quality of care they will receive at Guthrie,” said Paul Henry, RDMS, RVT, RT, Technical Director of the Vascular Lab at Guthrie Sayre.
Cardiovascular diseases are the number one cause of death in the United States. Early detection of life threatening disorders, such as carotid artery blockages and aortic aneurysms, is possible through the use of non-invasive vascular testing procedures performed in both hospital and office locations. Patients should remain vigilant in ensuring that their vascular testing procedures are performed within accredited facilities, since in most areas it remains a voluntary process.
Accreditation by the IAC means that these clinics and labs have undergone a thorough review of their operational and technical components by a panel of experts. Accreditation is granted only to facilities found to be providing quality patient care in compliance with national standards through a comprehensive application process, including detailed case study review.
IAC accreditation is widely respected within the medical community and is required in some states and regions by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) and by some private insurers.
