Sayre, Pa. – Guthrie held the official ribbon cutting ceremony for its new Guthrie Corning Hospital, a 235,000 square foot, $143 million facility, on Friday, June 27. Guthrie Corning Hospital is only the second new hospital to open in New York State in 25 years.
The ceremony began at 10 a.m. with a ribbon-cutting outside of the main entrance of the hospital located at One Guthrie Drive in Corning, N.Y. Dr. Joseph Scopelliti, President and CEO of Guthrie; Shirley P. Magaña, President and Chief Operating Officer of Guthrie Corning Hospital; New York State Lieutenant Governor Robert P. “The planning, development and construction of this hospital has taken many years,” said Dr. Scopelliti. “We are so very proud to unveil this facility and to make the most advanced technology and health care accessible to the people of this region. We invite the community to visit the new hospital Sunday, June 29 from 12-3 p.m. Everyone is welcome.”
“The opening of the new Guthrie Corning Hospital is a historic day in our community and for the State of New York,” said Magaña. “We have designed this hospital with the patient and their family in mind so they can receive high quality care in a home like atmosphere.”
Phil Roche, President of Corning Hospital Board, recognized the generosity of the donors, “The campaign to fund this project, not only met, but exceeded its fundraising goal of $4 million, reaching a grand total of more than $4.6 million.” He added, “those who contributed to this project have invested in the health of our community; the dollars raised will benefit our patients for years to come.”
The hospital and outpatient services do not open to the public or patients until July 12 at 6 a.m.
The new facility features 65 private, single-occupancy inpatient rooms; an expanded cancer center with a separate patient entrance; enhanced outpatient service areas; five suites and a dedicated cesarean delivery suite in The Birthplace at Guthrie Corning Hospital; an Emergency Department with 18 treatment areas and two fast track rooms; five state-of-the-art surgical suites; an on-site helipad to save crucial time during transports; and a technology infrastructure equipped to support electronic health records and efficient provision of care.
