Guthrie Cancer Center Offers Survivorship Series

Sayre, Pa. – Guthrie Cancer Center will hold an educational series on survivorship for cancer survivors and their loved ones. The series of four seminars will cover common areas of concern for cancer survivors such as fatigue, nutrition, chemobrain and stress/anxiety.

The sessions will take place from 6 - 7 p.m. on the second Thursday of the month starting on August 9, through November 8. Meetings will be in the Guthrie Cancer Center Waiting Room on the fifth floor of the Guthrie Clinic building on the Sayre campus.

Guthrie Cancer Center Medical Social Worker Dawn Clover says, “The survivorship program supports cancer survivors as they transition from active treatment to post treatment. It is designed to provide the survivor with knowledge of the long term side effects of treatment, as well as the tools to enhance their physical and psychological well-being.”

Topics in the series will include:

August 9 – Cancer Related Fatigue – Presented by Mike Fritzen, MSPT
September 13 - Nutrition After Cancer Treatment – Presented by Katharine Ward Freed, MS, RD, LDN, CDE
October 11- Cognitive Restoration "Chemo Brain" and Swallowing Issues – Presented by Dawn Sharpe, SLP, CCC
November 8- Moving Forward - Psychological Concerns – Presented by Yalitza Marrero, LPC
