A nuclear stress test uses a radioactive tracer to image the heart. The study looks for blockages in the supply arteries, determines muscle viability and pumping ability of the heart. Patients are given a stress test on a treadmill or with a chemical to evaluate the electrical activity of their heart.
Early detection of life threatening heart disorders and other diseases is possible through the use of nuclear cardiology procedures.
The Guthrie Medical Group Big Flats office performs 500 nuclear stress tests annually.
