Sayre, Pa. – The Donald Guthrie Distinguished Provider Award has been presented to David Pfisterer, MD, a family medicine physician who works in the Guthrie office in Wellsboro, Pa.
The award is given each year to a provider who best exemplifies the traits of Clinic founder Donald Guthrie, MD. Dozens of nominations came in from patients and colleagues, but the Reward and Recognition Committee of the Guthrie Board of Directors felt the honor belong to Dr. Pfisterer.
The Wellsboro office received a call from a patient’s wife this summer that her terminally ill husband’s condition was worsening. Dr. Pfisterer drove 20 miles to the home and after determining that the patient was nearing the end of his life, stayed with the family until he had passed. He helped them with their grief and assisted with making arrangements. The patient’s wife nominated Dr. Pfisterer for the Donald Guthrie Distinguished Provider Award saying in part, “My family and I felt so blessed that he was sent to us in our time of need.”
Dr. Pfisterer is a graduate of the Medical College of Pennsylvania and has been with the Guthrie System since 1996.
Also awarded during the annual recognitions was the Donald Guthrie Distinguished Service Award. It was presented to Cindy Kingston in the Clinic Business Office, who was called a “star employee” and “an example of what Dr. Donald Guthrie had in mind when he formed such a wonderful organization.” Cindy was cited by her coworkers for always putting patients first and for her upbeat and professional attitude.
