Sayre, Pa. – The 17th Annual James S. Ty, MD Memorial Award was presented to Kathy Johnson, RN, at the Guthrie Medical Imaging Service dinner earlier this month.
According to her peers, Kathy possesses deep understanding and empathy that adds to her compassion. She is very education-oriented and this benefits not only her patients, but her coworkers as well. She is very aware and in tune with the patients and their needs. Kathy is an excellent nurse and a valuable asset to the Guthrie Robert Packer Hospital Radiation Oncology Department.
Nominated for service excellence and dedication along with Kathy were Barbara Root, Radiology Technologist in Guthrie Big Flats, Pam Sherman, Radiology Manager at Guthrie Troy Community Hospital, Joel Smith, Radiology Technologist for Guthrie Robert Packer Hospital MRI, Heather Wheeler, Radiology Technologist for Guthrie Robert Packer Hospital CT and Stephanie Williams, Radiology Technologist (Radiology IT). Joel Smith was the first runner-up and Stephanie Williams was the second runner up.
All were nominated by their colleagues as exemplifying the Guthrie values of patient centeredness, teamwork and excellence.
Dr. James Ty was a radiologist at Robert Packer Hospital and the Guthrie Clinic for 15 years, setting a high standard of excellence for himself and those around him. Each year, candidates are nominated by their peers and a winner is selected on criteria that celebrate his unwavering focus on quality and continuous improvement, as well as his commitment to Guthrie and its patients.
