Lung cancer is the leading cause of cancer death in the country. By the time lung cancer is identified, often it is too far advanced to be cured.
To identify lung cancer early, Guthrie Health is initiating a lung cancer screening program. Eligible patients, who voluntarily agree to participate, will be involved in a research trial and receive a low dose CT scan of the chest to screen for lung cancer. The scan will be paid for by the Guthrie Foundation for Education and Research. This trial will further our knowledge of the benefits of early detection of lung cancer and help to create improved screening guidelines for the future.
You may be eligible if you meet the following criteria:
- Age 50 or older
- Have smoked the equivalent of one pack per day of cigarettes for 20 years
- Current smoker or quit smoking less than 15 years ago
If you would like more information or are interested in participating, please call 570-887-2414 or visit www.GuthrieClinicalTrials.org.
