Guthrie's Plastic Surgery Department offers a surgical option of skin excision for patients who have undergone bariatric surgery and want to further address their medical and cosmetic needs.
Nicholas Evertson, DO, advises patients to wait two to three months after their weight loss to undergo a contouring procedure, which addresses issues like intertriginous dermatitis. But the dialogue about body contouring should begin with the patient midway through their weight loss program. Evertson notes that the procedure is considered cosmetic surgery by insurers and in most cases will not be covered.
