The Pediatric Unit of the Robert Packer Hospital works together with a specially-trained medical staff who are available 24 hours a day to care for the needs of your sick child. Specialized professionals combine compassionate care with state-of-the-art technology and skills to help sick children get well. Guthrie pediatric physicians see many of their patients and provide the majority of pediatric care at the Guthrie main
campus in Sayre, Pennsylvania. In the last year, Guthrie has had over 27,000 pediatric patient visits and nearly 4,000 hospital admissions for children.

Typical medical problems treated by Guthrie pediatricians include:

 

·         Respiratory and gastro-intestinal problems 

·         Problems unique to newborns 

·         Surgical needs

·         Other pediatric problems such as seizures, and pediatric trauma 

 

Services offered by the Pediatric Unit include:

All of our nurses are educated to care for our pediatric patientsEach nurse is certified in Pediatric Advancd Life Support (PALS) and has completed an initial pediatric competency before they care for children and  yearly competencies to remain current.  Parents are encouraged to stay with their child if they wish and care centers around the entire family unit.


Community Education
The department offers a number of courses for adults and children addressing:

 

·         My Food Pyramid – healthy eating habits

·         Terrance the Turtle – Safety First

·         Healthy Habits

·         Safety Town – safety for kindergarten age children presented in the late spring
