About the Helicopter Program
Guthrie Air, the critical-care helicopter program based at Robert Packer Hospital, provides quality emergency medical care and transports critically ill and injured patients in accordance with the regulations of the Pennsylvania Department of Health, the American College of Surgeons and the Association of Air Medical Services. The program is managed and staffed by the Air Methods Corporation, the world's largest air medical company, featuring over 200 owned, leased or maintained helicopters and fixed-wing aircraft in its fleet. Air Methods has an impressive track record of partnering with health care providers to form successful community-based air medical programs. Guthrie Air’s EuroCopter 135 helicopter is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and is staffed by an EMS pilot, a critical care flight nurse and a specially-trained flight paramedic. Medical command is provided by Robert Packer Hospital Emergency Department physicians. The Sayre base has a full-time, FAA-certified mechanic on duty for regular and scheduled maintenance. The aircraft operates on an Air Methods certificate and is managed by Air Methods.
Critical care capabilities are available in-house 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Robert Packer Hospital also features a cardiac catheterization lab and cardiothoracic surgeons who utilize advanced cardiac surgical techniques.
