RESIDENCY GUTHRIE SCHOLARS PROGRAM The Guthrie Scholars Program is a cooperative arrangement between Wilkes University, Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania; Guthrie Health, Sayre, Pennsylvania; State University of New York Upstate Medical College, Syracuse, New York; Pennsylvania State University College of Medicine at Hershey, Hershey, Pennsylvania; and Drexel University School of Medicine, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The Guthrie Scholars Program was initiated in 1990 to assist in addressing the decreased interest of residents and physicians in providing medical service to rural areas in Northeast Pennsylvania and contiguous counties in the Southern Tier of New York State. The goal of this program is to provide exceptional high school students an opportunity to be admitted to a medical school as a high school senior and to experience a semester of field experience on the Guthrie campus during their senior year at Wilkes University. Only students who have been accepted to Wilkes University and have completed a premedical scholars application with Wilkes University by November 15, of each year will be considered for the Guthrie Scholars Program.
For further information, contact Eileen Sharp at Wilkes University by emailing sharp@wilkes.edu or by calling 1-570-408-4823. Indicate that you are interested in the Wilkes University Guthrie Premedical Scholar Program.
