INTERNAL MEDICINE RESIDENCY PROGRAM
LETTER FROM THE PROGRAM DIRECTOR - INTERNAL MEDICINE RESIDENCY PROGRAM
We at Guthrie Clinic/Robert Packer Hospital hope you will take a close look at our Internal Medicine Residency Program We believe that we have created a program that combines the best aspects of a University Hospital and a Community Hospital. Robert Packer Hospital and the main campus of the Guthrie Clinic in Sayre serve as a major referral center for the Northern Tier of Pennsylvania and Southern Tier of New York but also serve the primary care need of the local community. This exposes our residents to an extremely diverse patient population. Residents are exposed to “bread and butter” general medicine but also to a wide array of complex, challenging, rare and often critically ill cases. At our institution, you will see patients from adolescence to octogenarians. They will have maladies from the common cold up to a recent experience with a patient with inhalation anthrax. We think we have achieved a program that will produce residents who function as easily as tertiary care specialists as they do primary care internists.
Our program has a heavy emphasis on teaching. Morning report, noon conference and teaching rounds are daily events for every resident. Special rotations include systems-based practice and occupational medicine. Residents are given extensive training in evidence based medicine and each resident is required to participate in scholarly activity.
Finally, our program structure mirrors the multi-specialty nature of the Guthrie Clinic and is different than most traditional internal medicine residency programs. Our rotations are subspecialty based which we believe greatly enhances the residents’ educational experience.
Come experience Guthrie-a different level of Residency Education
