Educational Opportunities at Guthrie

Guthrie/Robert Packer Hospital offers students an opportunity during their third and fourth years to rotate to Guthrie/Robert Packer Hospital as a part of a required clerkship or an elective experience in many areas of study.

 

Medical School Affiliations

Guthrie/Robert Packer Hospital has formal affiliation agreements with Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine and Jefferson Medical College.

Students from other LCME accredited medical schools are encouraged to inquire about rotations at our hospital.

 

Family Medicine Electives

 

 


 

Family Medicine Clerkship - 4 Credits

PREREQUISITES: Attendance and interest in Family Medicine. Completion of 2nd year of
medical school.

MAXIMUM NUMBER
OF STUDENTS:
2 third-year students accepted throughout the year, pending Department of Medical Education approval.

LENGTH: 6 weeks

WEEKLY ACTIVITIES: Lectures, seminars, clinics, group discussions, meetings with faculty, assigned reading.

ELECTIVE DESCRIPTION: Student will participate, at the appropriate level for his/her education, in patient care with friendly, enthusiastic, learner-centered faculty and residents. Exposure to a full range of patient acuity and pathology. Students are encouraged to develop problem solving skills during their rotation.

READING: Assigned reading is required.

CRITERIA FOR EVALUATION OF PERFORMANCE: Participation in patient care, lectures, seminars, discussions, and assigned reading.

IS PERFORMANCE DISCUSSED WITH STUDENT: Yes, throughout the rotation. In addition, the student’s preceptor will be expected to complete an evaluation form and return it to the school upon completion of the rotation.

WEEKLY ACTIVITIES: Lectures, seminars, clinics, group discussions, and meetings with faculty. Completion of assigned reading. Rotation to outlying clinics can be arranged.

ELECTIVE DESCRIPTION: This rotation will encourage the student to participate in Family Medicine in a rural setting with the Family Medicine Residency Program offering the student hands-on patient care and supervision from faculty and residents who enjoy teaching. During the student’s clerkship, students are encouraged to develop technical and problem solving skills.

READING: Assigned reading.

CRITERIA FOR EVALUATION OF PERFORMANCE: Participation in patient care, lectures, seminars, and discussions. Completion of assigned reading, as well as development of technical and problem solving skills.

IS PERFORMANCE DISCUSSED WITH STUDENT: Yes, throughout the rotation. The student’s preceptor being expected to complete an evaluation form and return it to the school upon the student’s completion of rotation.
