Background
Dr. McClelland was born and raised in southeast Pennsylvania and graduated from
both Messiah College and Penn State University before entering the US Army and
earning his medical degree. He has been all across the USA, El Salvador and
Iraq, settling in Baghdad for over 6 months. He has been chief of a Family
Practice Service, chief of Primary Care and Community Medicine Division, a
residency teaching faculty and a Battalion Surgeon in the 82nd
Airborne Division. (All the WAY!)
He came to Guthrie for the combination of teaching,
administration and collaborative patient care opportunities. When not at work,
he can be found with his family, down on the farm!
Philosophy on health care
Health Care is a partnership between a clinician-teacher and a
patient-learner. Balance in all things is important for both parts of this
partnership.
Thomas Yaeger, M.D.

Background
Dr. Yaeger was raised in California and Minnesota and educated in Los
Angeles, California. He began his formal education at the University of
California in Santa Barbara where he received his bachelor's degree in
cellular and organismal biology in 1974. He received his medical degree
from the University of California Los Angeles School of Medicine in 1978.
After graduation, Dr. Yaeger completed a UCSF family medicine residency
at the Community Hospital of Sonoma County in Santa Rosa, California.
He entered solo rural practice in northern California for 13 years. During
this time, he also taught part-time with a residency program.
Upon deciding to
emphasize residency education, Dr. Yaeger came to Pennsylvania in 1994. He
completed a one-year faculty development fellowship at the University of
North Carolina, Chapel Hill in 1996. Outside of work, he enjoys hiking,
motorcycle riding, and forestry management.

G. Belardi, M.D.

Background: Dr. Belardi was born, raised and educated in downstate New
York near the West Point military academy. He received his BS at Iona College
and his MD at Creighton University School of Medicine. His post-graduate
training took him to Providence, RI, Columbus, OH and Chapel Hill, NC. Most of
his pre-Guthrie career was devoted to the practice of family medicine in the
private sector and as a staff physician / physician manager for the Kaiser
Permanente Health system. During the early 1980s, he taught in the family
medicine residency at Riverside Hospital – Medical College of Ohio, Toledo.
When not practicing medicine or teaching, he can be found enjoying his family,
sailing or downhill skiing.
Philosophy on Health Care: Dr. Belardi believes that the best patient
care occurs in the patient-centered model of health care delivery. The patient
must be treated within the context of his disease and not as an illness.

Background:
Born and
raised in India, Dr. Bobra received a national merit based entrance into one of
the best medical schools in India. After that she completed residency training
in OB-GYN. Dr. Bobra was the chief obstetrician in a private clinic in India.
She decided to move to the United States and complete a Family Medicine
Residency with OB training; and due to interests in teaching, chose to become a
faculty member with Guthrie Family Medicine. When not at work, Dr. Bobra enjoys
spending time with her husband and 2 children.

Background
Dr. Lichtenstein was raised in Baltimore, Maryland. He received his undergraduate
and master's degrees from the University of Maryland. He received his
doctoral degree in clinical psychology from Michigan State University.
Dr. Lichtenstein has a strong interest in marital and family therapy,
Balint training and translation of marital/family/cognitive theories for
use in family medicine. He chose to work at Guthrie because of the medical
center environment in a rural area. He enjoys spending time with his wife
and two sons, biking and hiking with his dogs.
He has
been quite active in the American Balint Society, serving on the National
Council, as Secretary, as Coordinator of Supervision, and currently chairs the
Credentialing Coordinating Committee. He has also been active in helping the
Balint Society of Australia develop Balint work in that county.
Laurie
Gleockner
Residency Program Coordinator
Laurie makes her home in the Valley with her family and enjoys traveling,
tutoring in the local literacy program including English as a Second Language,
and walking. A native of the Valley, she has lived in the area all of her life
and has attended local schools and colleges.
Laurie is new to the Family Medicine
Program Coordinator role and has recently become a member of the Association of
Family Medicine Administrators. Laurie travels to the national residency
conference in Kansas City each year. She is the residency contact person and a
resource for students, residents and faculty members, assisting in the
residents’ transition into the program and institution, and assisting in their
educational and personal journey to graduation.

Background: I grew up in Philadelphia and graduated from Chestnut Hill
College. After, residency, I worked at a federally-funded community health
center in Philadelphia. Because I wanted to practice the full spectrum of family
medicine I decided to come to Guthrie. I love doing Ob care and seeing the whole
family. When I'm not at work I enjoy spending time with my family and
volunteering in my community.
Donald E. Phykitt, D.O.

Background
Dr. Phykitt was raised and educated in New York. He began his formal education
at Cornell University in Ithaca, New York where he earned a bachelor's
degree in animal science in 1981. He received his medical degree from
the New York College of Osteopathic Medicine in 1989. After graduation,
he completed a rotating internship at the Delaware Valley Medical Center
in Langhorne, PA. His residency in family medicine was completed at Warren
Hospital in Phillipsburg, New Jersey and a primary care/sports medicine
fellowship with Penn State sports medicine at Hershey Medical Center in
Hershey, Pennsylvania. Dr. Phykitt chose to come to work at Guthrie Clinic
because he was looking for a group situation where he could grow professionally,
be involved with local schools and teach both residents and students.
His interests include running, bike riding, cross country skiing and church
activities.

care
"The best medical
care occurs between a physician and patient as a team effort. The patient
deserves personalized, quality treatment delivered in a caring manner.
Patients also must agree to work on a healthy, active lifestyle to maximize
their quality of life. The physician must help 'coach' them in lifestyle
choices."

Ram C Sharma, MD

Special interests: All aspects of dementia, especially Alzheimer’s diease.
His focus is on finding early cases of alzhemier’s dementia and treating
patients in the community setting for as long as possible. Dr Sharma is director
of the memory clinic. He has additional interests in tropical medine and
traveler’s health.
Background: Dr Sharma was born in India to a poor family. He received
scholardhips to attend school and college. After graduation from medical school,
his interests took him to Germany, Great Britain, and the West Indies before
settling in Sayre, Pa. Dr Sharma teaches geriatrics to the residents both in
internal medicine and in family medicine. Active in the internal medicine
program, he advises the program about cultural competency in learning and
performance. He enjoys spending time with his wife and 3 children. He also
playing bridge and golf. He continues to travel.
Philosophy of Health Care- "I believe in cost effective health care and
the avoidance of waste. Practicing evidence based medicine within the means of
the institution is the goal."

Background
Dr. Van Dyke was raised and educated in
Pennsylvania. She graduated as the valedictorian of her Athens High School class. After studying biology/chemistry and
psychology at Lock Haven University, she graduated cum laude in 1992 and received her medical degree from Temple University
Medical School in 1996. She enjoys the variety that family medicine offers. Dr.
Van Dyke chose Guthrie for her residency and because of the quality of the program
and the location near her hometown of Athens. She is a proponent of preventative
health care and patient education. Dr. Van Dyke
also enjoys crafts, quilting,
racquetball and running. She is most noted by her colleagues /patients
for her involvement in the community.
