Guthrie Robert Packer Hospital Auxiliary Donates to Penn-York Opportunities, Inc.

Sayre, Pa. – The Guthrie Robert Packer Hospital Auxiliary recently donated $7,000 to Penn-York Opportunities, Inc. in Athens, Pa. This donation is equal to half of the total amount raised by the Auxiliary at the 7th Annual Sayre Turkey Trot in November of 2013. The donation will be used by Penn-York Opportunities, Inc. to help people in our community with disabilities find employment and maintain an optimal quality of life.

The Seventh Annual Sayre Turkey Trot 5K and Kids’ Fun Run, presented by the Guthrie Robert Packer Hospital Auxiliary and sponsored by Williams Auto Group and Dandy Mini Marts, took place on Thanksgiving Day, Thursday, Nov. 28, 2013. The event has been a Thanksgiving Day tradition in Sayre since 2007.

The Turkey Trot had humble beginnings, with 110 runners crossing the finish line in its first year. It has grown to become the largest 5K event in Bradford County, Pa. In 2013, 1,300 runners registered for the event. The run continues to attract more participants from across the nation each year. Total proceeds from the 2013 event reached $14,000.

After donating $7,000 to Penn-York Opportunities, the Guthrie Robert Packer Hospital Auxiliary donated $500 to the Choice 102.1 fundraiser Christmas is for Kids and $500 worth of food to the Valley Food Pantry in Waverly, N.Y. The auxiliary will use the remainder of the proceeds to purchase equipment for Guthrie’s Clinical Skills Laboratory and Simulation Center, a resource for Guthrie residents and surgeons.
