Guthrie Big Flats Office Receives Nuclear Cardiology Accreditation

Sayre, Pa. – Guthrie Medical Group Big Flats, located in Horseheads, NY, has been granted a three-year term of accreditation in Nuclear Cardiology by the Intersocietal Accreditation Commission (IAC).

Accreditation by the IAC means that Guthrie Medical Group Big Flats has undergone a thorough review of its operational and technical components by a panel of experts. The IAC grants accreditation only to those facilities that are found to be providing quality patient care, in compliance with national standards through a comprehensive application process including detailed case study review.

A nuclear stress test uses a radioactive tracer to image the heart. The study looks for blockages in the supply arteries, determines muscle viability and pumping ability of the heart. Patients are given a stress test on a treadmill or with a chemical to evaluate the electrical activity of their heart.

Early detection of life threatening heart disorders and other diseases is possible through the use of nuclear cardiology procedures.

The Guthrie Medical Group Big Flats office performs 500 nuclear stress tests annually.
