At the conclusion of this activity, participants should be able to:

  • Define palliative care and hospice.
  • Describe when palliative care needs are appropriate for patients with terminal illness and that comprehensive cancer care includes palliative care from the beginning of diagnosis.
  • Identify the goals of palliative care.
  • Review the assessment of palliative care needs.
  • Determine criteria to quality for Hospice services.
  • Summarize what services hospice can provide.
  • Recognize the dying process.
