Cancer Treatment

If you are diagnosed with cancer, you will be referred to an oncologist for evaluation and treatment recommendations. There are a number of different types of oncologists, including:
- Medical Oncologist - who specializes in the use of chemotherapy in the treatment of cancer.
- Radiation Oncologist - who specializes in the treatment of cancer using radiation therapy.
- Surgical Oncologist - who specializes in the surgical removal of cancers.
All of these physicians work closely together and there are overlapping roles in the treatment of some cancers.
Depending on your treatment you may also see these specialists:
- Hematologist - who treat patients with blood and platelet disorders and cancer.
- Interventional Radiologist - who uses imaging equipment to perform procedures ("intervene") that directly treat a disease.
