Guthrie Robert Packer Hospital Launches New Fall Prevention Program

Guthrie Robert Packer Hospital is launching a new fall prevention program that uses a multi-disciplinary team to respond and investigate any patient fall in the facility. The program is being trialed on 6Southwest and 8Northwest during June and July, with plans to implement it facility-wide on July 22.

The fall response team consists of a member of the nursing staff who has been specially trained as a "fall expert", a medical resident and a pharmacist. Immediately following a patient fall, this team will report to the area and conduct a "fall scene investigation" to determine the root cause of the fall and develop a plan to prevent subsequent falls.

This team concept has proven valuable in reducing the total number of falls in other facilities across the country.
