Guthrie Healthcare System is a community-based, not-for-profit health care system and is the parent corporation of Robert Packer Hospital, Troy Community Hospital, Corning Hospital and long-term care entities Guthrie Home Health, Guthrie Hospice, and Sayre House Nursing Home. What opportunities are there for nurses at Guthrie? There are a wide variety of nursing positions at Guthrie, including opportunities in long-term care, critical care, outpatient care, home care and more.
Are there shift differentials for nights and weekends? RNs receive shift differentials, a specialty certification premium, and a weekend premium. Shift differentials and salaries vary at different Guthrie entities and locations.
How do I apply for reciprocity for my nurse’s license? To apply for nursing license reciprocity in New York, call the New York State Board of Nursing at (518) 474-3817; in Pennsylvania call the Pennsylvania State Board of Nursing at (717) 783-7142. Temporary permits will be issued prior to official licensing so that you can practice pending official licensing.
Is there support for continuing education for nurses? Yes! Guthrie encourages nurses to stay up-to-date and continue their education. Our department of Nursing Education work with staff to identify and provide a variety of continuing education programs. Staff may also attend professional conferences and tuition reimbursement is available for nurses seeking an undergraduate or master’s degree in nursing.
Does Guthrie offer tuition reimbursement to nurses? Yes, Guthrie offers tuition reimbursement for nurses.
Does Guthrie offer student loan forgiveness? Yes, Guthrie currently participates with PHEAA (1-800-692-7392) and NELRP (1-877-464-4772).
Does Guthrie offer any continuing education classes for registered nurses? Yes, courses in CPR, trauma nursing, EKG, critical care and regular unit inservices are offered. In addition , Guthrie promotes leadership development through a program offered by Guthrie’s Organizational Development department. The program consists of several courses for the development of leadership skills.
Does Guthrie require mandatory overtime? No. There is a strong commitment to flexible scheduling to accommodate census, so mandatory overtime is not necessary.
Are per diem positions available? Per diem positions are available throughout the Guthrie system.
What opportunities are there in the nursing float pool at Guthrie? The float pool is a group of nurses with critical care experience who are trained to work in almost every clinical area. Most float nurses are certified in critical care. Float positions are available on the inpatient and outpatient side at Guthrie. Float nurses receive a higher rate of pay due to the additional skills and flexibility required.
