About the Regional Trauma Center at Robert Packer Hospital
Our Commitment to Excellence
Robert Packer Hospital is committed to the reduction of death and disability caused by injury
by providing the resources essential for expeditious, evidence-based quality trauma care.
Robert Packer Hospital is a Regional Trauma Center accredited as an adult Level II center
by the Pennsylvania Trauma Systems Foundation (PTSF). The PTSF establishes accreditation standards
for trauma centers in Pennsylvania meeting or exceeding the guidelines established
by the American College of Surgeons Committee on Trauma. As an accredited trauma center,
Robert Packer Hospital guarantees the immediate availability of a specialized team of personnel,
equipment, and capabilities 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. The trauma team functions under
the direct leadership of board-certified surgeons with additional training in trauma surgery
and surgical critical care. A surgical team is in-house 24 hours a day for any patient requiring immediate
operative intervention. Medical and surgical sub-specialists are also on-call and immediately
available to respond in-house when needed to provide care for the trauma patient.
When Every Minute Counts, You Can Count On Us
Good outcome, and many times survival, depends on getting the right patient to the right place at
the right time. The Regional Trauma Center at Robert Packer Hospital assures “Care is waiting for
the trauma patient . . . instead of the patient having to wait for care.” This trauma system was
created when it was realized that more lives could be saved by taking critically injured patients to
specialized trauma centers for immediate care, where teams are in-house, saving valuable time
necessary to assemble the appropriate staff, equipment, and support required to provide life-saving
care; time that trauma patients do not have.
