Guthrie Sports Medicine

Active people consistently demand high levels of performance from their bodies. During the past decade, sports-related injuries sustained by the general public have increased dramatically. If not treated aggressively, these injuries may limit or prevent individuals from participating in sports, work or certain daily activities.

Guthrie Sports Medicine's approach focuses on aggressive early treatment that addresses total body fitness, as well as the injury itself. This approach typically enables individuals to return to their active lifestyles more quickly and with improved performance.

The 24th Annual Guthrie Gallop was a great success!! The Guthrie Gallop was a USA Track & Field-certified event & proceeds from the event will benefit youth and recreation in the community. Medals were presented to the first three finishers in their age group, and to overall male and female winners.

Rehabilitation of Sports-Related Injuries

The injured athlete may be referred to physical therapy for treatment. Guthrie Sports Medicine provides treatment for injured athletes that focuses on aggressive injury care in addition to total body fitness. The department’s protocols follow the most current theories including the use of state-of-the-art equipment. Care may include sport-specific training and sport mechanics assessment to allow the athlete a safer return to full activity and competition.

School-Based Injury Prevention and Care Services

Our athletic trainers visit area high schools regularly to assist team physicians in providing assessment of non-emergency injuries, and to offer follow-up recommendations.  The athletic trainers assist coaching staffs, school health officials, parents and athletes with injury prevention, care and treatment advice.  They can also coordinate continued medical care as needed.

Guthrie Sports Medicine personnel provide sporting event or game coverage on a contract basis.

Guthrie Sports Medicine also offers an expanded physical screening process, to augment existing pre-participation sports physicals.  The process can include gait and posture analysis, flexibility screening, orthopaedic assessment and body fat analysis.

  • Community Education
Through a variety of means, including speaking engagements, workshops, coaches’ clinics and in-services, Guthrie Sports Medicine personnel offer the community information on health, fitness, injury prevention and injury care.
