OrthopaedicsWhat to ExpectShoulder pain can be a debilitating condition that may prevent daily activities such as driving a car, opening a door or even sleeping. Designed for individuals with shoulder problems that can arise from a trauma, arthritis or other causes, Guthrie Shoulder Camp encompasses the total shoulder repair process, and brings a new approach to treatment.
A board-certified Guthrie orthopaedic surgeon will examine you. After your examination, if surgery is required, you will begin an individualized exercise program prior to your surgery. If you do not require surgery, your physical rehabilitation program will begin shortly after the examination. Your surgical procedure will be performed during the day and you will return home later in the day. You will begin your home physical rehabilitation program that evening. Your coach (usually a family member or friend) will play a vital role in your recovery, helping you attain critical rehabilitation milestones along the way.
Following surgery, the real work begins. You will participate in individualized and group rehabilitation sessions. Working with other patients during group rehabilitation, you will have the support and encouragement you need to make real progress. Our specialists will assist you and your coach through each of these steps. Please feel free to ask questions…we want you to feel confident about your post-operative care. Non-surgical patients can participate in Shoulder Camp with all of its benefits. The intensity and commitment required of patients, coaches and the Guthrie team are the same whether surgery is performed or not.
