Services include general and high-risk obstetrics; laser therapy of cervical, vaginal, and vulvar lesions; infertility evaluation and treatment, donor insemination; family planning services; gynecologic endocrinology; cancer detection and treatment; microsurgical tubular reconstruction and repair; evaluation and treatment of pelvic pain; sterilization reversal; general inpatient and outpatient gynecologic diagnosis and treatment; endometrial ablation; vulvar dysplasia evaluation and treatment, and nurse midwifery services.
A Certified Nurse-Midwife (CNM) is educated in the two disciplines of nursing and midwifery and cares for women and their infants during the childbearing years. To become certified, the nurse-midwife must complete a course of study in an accredited educational program and pass a rigorous examination administered by the American College of Nurse-Midwives. State requirements for nurse-midwifery must also be met.
The midwives provide well-woman gynecology services before and after surgery including Pap smears, physical exams, breast exams, pelvic exams and contraception advice. Mammography referrals and assistance in the care of post menopausal women are also offered.
Midwives provide prenatal care with extensive counseling time for nutritional, exercise, and healthful lifestyle choices during pregnancy.
Midwives provide support and care during the labor process and assist with birthing, involving the family to the extent desired. During the postpartum phase, the midwives advise self-care, breast or bottle feeding, and resumption of life as a new mother.
