Guthrie’s Sleep Disorders Center
Treatments
The following treatments are used in the treatment of various sleep disorders:
- CPAP/Bi-PAP – continuous positive air pressure
and bi-level positive air pressure devices help patients with obstructive
sleep apnea (OSA) sleep normally by forcing open the air passages of the
throat. This enables OSA patients to achieve regular sleep.
- Surgery – uvulopalatopharyngoplasty (UPPP),
somnoplasty and snorplasty are surgical procedures that either reduce or
stiffen the tissues of the palate, reducing palatal flutter and thus snoring
and potentially obstruction due to excess tissue.
- Oral appliances - specialty devices that are
designed to reduce obstruction
