Health Screenings
The following cancer screening guidelines are recommended
for those people at average risk for cancer and without any specific symptoms.
People who are at increased risk for certain cancers may need to follow a different screening schedule, such as
starting at an earlier age or being screened more often. Those with symptoms that could be related to cancer
should see their doctor right away.
Starting at Age 20
- Clinical breast exam every 3 years
- Annual cervical cancer screening (regular Pap test) every year by age 21
- After age 30 and after 3 successive normal Pap tests, regular cervical cancer screening every 2-3 years
Starting at Age 40
- Annual mammogram, starting earlier for women at increased breast cancer risk
- Annual prostate-specific antigen (PSA) test and digital rectal exam (DRE) starting at age 45 for men at higher risk of prostate cancer
Starting at Age 50
- Annual prostate-specific antigen (PSA) test and digital rectal exam (DRE) for men
- Annual fecal occult blood test (FOBT) with flexible sigmoidoscopy every five years or colonoscopy every 10 years
