Facing your own death or the death of a loved one will likely be
your greatest challenge in life. Guthrie Hospice is
dedicated to helping those we serve meet this
challenge with peace and dignity.
Quality
end-of-life care isn’t about how you die; it’s about how you live. Hospice and
palliative care focuses on how dying persons and their loved ones live each day,
providing comfort and guidance along the way
We offer a high level of professional skills, combined with caring and compassionate
personal attention, as well as emotional support and spiritual counseling to patients and
families. Guthrie Hospice is accredited by the
Community Health Accreditation Program
(CHAP.)
Living life fully to the end
Guthrie Hospice focuses on care, not cure. Our primary concern is to help the patient make the most of each
and every day by providing comfort and relief from their pain and symptoms.
To provide quality care, patients are primarily cared for by professional registered nurses and licensed practical nurses.
Nurse supervisors are specially trained to address the unique needs of Hospice patients.
Professional nurses are available 24 hours a day to meet the special needs of
the family when they need it most. Guthrie Hospice will help them learn, prepare for and deal with quality of life issues.
Whenever possible Guthrie Hospice works with the patient and their family to
maintain comfort and care in the home. But Guthrie Hospice is not limited to
homecare, we also offer our service to patients in nursing homes, hospitals, and
personal care homes.

When it comes to caring, Guthrie is right at home.
Hospice is just one of a number of Guthrie Home Care services that are a natural extension of the same
quality in health care traditionally associated with the Guthrie name. An attitude of concern and quiet efficiency comes naturally to our professionals, who are dedicated to delivering
personal, compassionate and cost-effective care.
Most Guthrie Home Care services are covered by Medicare, Pennsylvania Medical Assistance, Blue Cross or major medical coverage and other private insurance. However, lack of coverage or inability to pay for services does not mean loss of service. We will review your insurance coverage and explore alternative funding.
For quality care second to none, Guthrie is right at home.
Become a Guthrie Hospice volunteer
As a Hospice volunteer, you may be asked to sit with patients so their caregiver can have an hour or two reprieve. During that time, you may read to patients or sit quietly with them to dispel the fear of being alone. You also may be asked to run errands, such as grocery shopping or baby-sitting children, so family members can have time together.
For more information or to become a volunteer, contact Guthrie Hospice at 1-800-598-6155. Volunteers receive special training and have their own support group for continuing growth and nurturing.
