Guthrie Hepatitis C Clinic
Hepatitis C… Many thoughts and emotions go
through one’s mind when these words are spoken. Fear, confusion, anger and
isolation are some of the most commonly viewed reactions to the words.
Since you are reading this, chances are that you
or someone you know has been diagnosed with Hepatitis C. This is frightening.
However, in spite of what the media may lead you to believe, the disease is not
necessarily a death sentence. The good news is that Hepatitis C is not always a
terminal disease. Less than half of all people with Hepatitis C will develop
severe liver disease. Most people with the virus live a normal, symptom-free
life. Without knowing it, we all interact with carriers of the Hepatitis C virus
on a daily basis. In addition, there is treatment available and the response
rate of those who undergo treatment is improving dramatically.
Managing Hepatitis C and it’s treatment can be
a difficult task. We at Guthrie realize this and are up to the task. We have
been managing the disease since it was identified in the late 1980s. Guthrie has
several gastroenterologists
and nurse practitioners on staff in many locations. In addition, as part of our Hepatitis
C center, we have a team of specialists to help us assist you in the management
of your disease. We stress a team approach and also believe in involving you in
the decisions that must be made regarding your care. We welcome the opportunity
to work with you.

Recently, Bruce
Askey,
MS, CRNP, gastroenterology/hepatology in Sayre, was recently invited by
pharmaceutical consulting company Projects and Knowledge to participate in a
roundtable discussion about Hepatitis C and the management of side effects
related to Interferon and Ribavirin treatments.
Askey was invited to participate
because of the success Guthrie’s Hepatitis C Clinic has had with patients
using these treatments.
