Guthrie
Cancer Center
Hematology
is the branch of medicine that focuses
on the blood and blood-forming organs.
Hematologists specialize in treating
blood disorders, such as sickle-cell
anemia, venous malformations,
hemangiomas (benign tumors caused by an
overgrowth of blood vessels),
thalassemias (a group of genetic blood
disorders) and much more.
Guthrie’s hematologists are also
oncologists qualified to treat blood
cancers – such as leukemia – and all
other cancers as well. Departments
serving the cancer program include
cardiothoracic surgery; otolaryngology;
gastrointestinal surgery; general
surgery; gynecology and urology.
