Mammotome system is designed to assist the physician in extracting just the right amount of breast tissue for a definitive diagnosis. This highly accurate tool can sample tiny tissue abnormalities at the earliest stages of cancer when it is most treatable.

What makes Mammotome unique is that it captures the cells intact, giving the pathologist a superior sample for evaluation. In addition to being a more precise technique than a traditional needle biopsy, it also results in reduced recovery time with no significant scarring.

Guthrie's Robert Packer Hospital is one of only three hospitals in the state of Pennsylvania to be accredited by the American College of Radiology for this service. There are only a few in upstate New York that are accredited, the closest of which are located in Rochester and Syracuse.
