Part of the OPTI (Osteopathic Post-graduate Training Initiative) at Lake Erie College of Osteopathic medicine.
The faculty are extremely supportive of osteopathic physicians and principles. Osteopathic medical students experience this educational collegiality, stimulating academic environment, and holistic approach to patient care.
The education in osteopathic principles and practice is a high point of the osteopathic intern and resident’s experience at Guthrie . Weekly teaching sessions are dedicated to osteopathic teaching. This takes the format of didactic sessions, hands on training and manipulation, direct supervision of residents diagnosing and treating their own patients in both the inpatient and outpatient setting. The interns and residents become quite comfortable with incorporating osteopathic principles and manipulative skills into their daily practice.
The osteopathic experience is complemented by the comprehensive training in family medicine provided in the Guthrie Family Medicine Residency.

History of the Osteopathic Family Practice Residency Established in 1997 with the first resident graduating in the year 2000.
History of the Osteopathic Internship Approved in 2000 with the first intern graduating in 2001.
