Find A Physician

Finding a new physician.

Choosing the right physician to meet the on-going medical needs for you or your family is one of the most important decisions you can make. We’d like to make that decision as easy as possible and offer the tools and tips below to help you find the right physician for you. Regardless of which Guthrie physician you choose, we hope you enjoy a long and health-filled relationship with your provider.

How to get an appointment

Primary care or specialist

Primary care physicians including Family Medicine, Internal Medicine, OB/GYN or Pediatric physicians, have unique relationship with their patients. Because these relationships are established on an on-going basis, primary care physicians get to know and understand their patients well. These long-term relationships help patients get the best possible care since both acute and chronic problems are addressed and, changes in health status over time are more easily observed and managed appropriately. When you need specialty care, you can rely on your primary care physician to refer you to the most appropriate specialist for your individual problem and to follow your progress.

Your primary care physician can also advise you on selecting a suitable specialist to meet your personal needs based on your personal expectations, location, availability, and clinical expertise.

Guthrie has outstanding specialty physicians in most fields of medicine and surgery. In fact, Guthrie specialists often sub-specialize within a given field. For example, one eye doctor will gain extra experience in the medical treatment of people with diabetes, while another will gain more experience in the latest surgical approaches to cataracts. You can find a description of the special interests of each Guthrie physician within the biographical profile provided in Find a Physician.

Convenience

We know that convenience is important to patients. For that reason, many patients find it helpful that there are so many Guthrie regional offices to choose from when selecting a primary care physician. With offices in 22 communities throughout the Twin Tiers patients can easily access care near where they work or live. Many of our specialists rotate to selected regional offices as well for added convenience in consultations or follow-up visits. Click here for a complete listing of our regional offices.  The office(s) in which each provider schedules patient appointments is included in the Physician Profile Page. Please note that most of our offices offer Advanced Access for same day appointments requested before 11 AM, and some offer evening and/or Saturday appointments.

Insurance considerations

Check with your health plan or employer to be sure that the physician you select participates with your health plan. Guthrie participates in most insurance or health plan networks. More information is listed on the individual Physician Profile Page.

Old medical records

If you receive your health care through Guthrie, most of your medical record is immediately available in confidential and secure electronic format to your physician at the time of your visit. If your previous health care was not with a Guthrie provider, your physician will appreciate your bringing previous medical records with you to your appointment.

Your medications

When you see a new physician please bring a complete list of all your prescribed and over the counter medications with you, or if it’s easier, bring the actual medications with you.
