Guthrie Clinic

HISTORY

Guthrie Clinic is a multispecialty group practice that was founded in 1912 by Dr. Donald Guthrie. The Clinic is now comprised of over 275 specialists and 91 midlevel providers who provide comprehensive medical care using advanced medical technology for both diagnosis and treatment.

Dr. Guthrie's experience as one of the first fellows at the Mayo Clinic convinced him that a group practice comprised of well-trained, compassionate physicians could serve a rural Pennsylvania community of just as comprehensively as the Mayo Clinic served rural Minnesota.

Since 1912, Guthrie Clinic has grown in size and depth of service and is now a major regional referral center. More than 1,600 physicians in the area refer patients to Guthrie Clinic. In more than 23 communities within the region, Guthrie physicians provide primary care services from Guthrie Clinic regional offices. These regional office physicians work closely with local hospitals regarding acute patient care needs. These physicians are supported by specialists in Sayre, who make consultations, tertiary care and other services possible.

Dr. Guthrie's original concept of a clinic staffed by competent specialists working in concert with hospital administrators has grown to include hospitals and nursing homes working together to provide superior care for the region through an integrated network of services.

Guthrie Clinic continues to be a leader in the rapid development and expansion taking place within the medical arts and sciences.
