Medical Technology / Clinical Laboratory Science Program

Admission of Individuals with Foreign Degrees

It is a requirement of this program and the American Society for Clinical Pathologist, Board of Registry, ASCP (BOR) that all applicants have the equivalent of a baccalaureate degree.

1.Prior to application to the medical technology program, individuals who hold foreign educational degrees must have their foreign credentials evaluated by a registered member of the National Association of Credential Evaluation Services (NACES).

2.Evaluation of foreign academic credentials is necessary for determining if the applicant satisfies the minimum requirements for admissions required by the Program as stated in the program catalog and brochure.

3.Individuals who possess a foreign baccalaureate degree and wish to enter a NAACLS accredited program in medical technology must satisfy at least one of the following criteria:

A. Possession of a foreign baccalaureate degree with a major in either chemistry, biology, or pre-medical edcuation. Course work must meet the minimum admission requirements in biology, chemistry and mathematics as specified by the program and listed in the course catalog and should be subject to evaluation.

B. Course work must meet the minimum academic requirements (16 credits of biology, 16 credits of chemistry, 6 credits of mathematics) specified by the program and listed in the program catalog and should be subject to evaluation.

C .Admission to an accredited graduate program in a United States university is also acceptable when the college or university has accepted the foreign degree, regardless of the declared major. The course work should meet the minimum requirements specified in the program catalog by the program and should be subject to evaluation by the program director.

4.Verbal and Written English Requirements: Applicants with foreign degrees or who have completed three or more years of education at a foreign university must be able to demonstrate competent use of oral and written English at the college level. Applicants with foreign degrees are required to submit test scores for the TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) examination and must have a minimum score of 550 (paper examination) or 210 (computer examination) to be considered for admission to the medical technology program.

Exceptions to this policy are to those students who have a bachelor’s or master’s degrees from accredited universities in Australia, UK, Canada (except Quebec), Ireland or international students with a bachelor’s or master’s degree from a nationally accredited university from the United States.

An official copy of the TOEFL report must be sent to the Program Director. Admissions decisions will not be made without the official results of the TOEFL assessment. Submission of results does not guarantee acceptance into the Program. Any fee for the evaluation is the responsibility of the candidate.

5.Information on credential evaluation services may be obtained through the office of the program director. Students with foreign degrees should initiate their credential evaluation well in advance of the academic year planned for enrollment.
