Medical Technology / Clinical Laboratory Science Program What is a Medical
Technologist? Medical technologists are laboratory scientists who perform laboratory tests used in the diagnosis and treatment of disease, health maintenance, drug monitoring, organ transplantation, and forensic medicine. They are a vital member of the health care team. Medical technologists utilize state-of-the-art analyzers, complex computers, microscopes and precision instruments in determining the cause and extent of disease. The position of clinical laboratory scientist incorporates the sciences of hematology, immunology, clinical chemistry, medical microbiology, clinical microscopy and blood banking. The majority of medical technologists/laboratory scientists work in health care laboratories.
